CARICA
Typeface Design
Carica is a display typeface inspired using the shapes found in the fruit and leaves of the ficus carica plant, better known as the common fig tree. The typeface was created in response to a project that called for a creation of a digitization of a physical object that focused on a specific issue. I focused on the issue of modern agricultural practices and their impact on the environment. When designing the typeface, I found a balance between found shapes and clean lines to maximize both uniqueness and legibility. Letterforms designed in Adobe Illustrator and rendered into an .otf file in fontForge.
